A groundbreaking ceremony for the ORBIT Center in Osceola took place on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 10 a.m., at the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Osceola Center.

Bill Trickey, executive director of the Clarke County Development Corporation (CCDC), hosted the event. Other guest speakers during the event included Lindsay Stoaks, SWCC president; Kevin Emanuel, CCDC president; Brian Crawford, Denovo Construction Solutions chief operating officer; and Wayne Pantini, SWCC vice president of economic development.

The ORBIT Center, a $3.2 million project involving construction of a 9,000 square foot training facility on Highway 34, just west of the SWCC Osceola Center, is being spearheaded by the CCDC. SWCC will partner with CCDC to operate the center, which will be a regional training facility used for industrial training needs of private companies, regional secondary schools, and the college.

Construction on the ORBIT Center will begin this spring and is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2024. SWCC will begin offering continuing education courses in the ORBIT Center in early-2025 and credit programming by fall 2025.
