Reporting directly to the college president, individual is responsible for the recruitment, training, performance management and regulatory compliance of the human resource office. Serves as the college’s equity officer and has primary responsibility for coordinating the college’s efforts to comply with and carry out its responsibilities under Title IX. Individual also oversees the Quality Faculty Plan and maintains records of faculty progression with the plan. Serves as the privacy officer for HIPPA compliance. The director works closely with college administration on day to day operations and is responsible for developing HR-related policies and procedures for the college.

High school seniors who are headed directly to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) for the fall 2021 semester now have an additional scholarship possibility to consider applying for this spring. This scholarship has the potential to allow the recipient/s to graduate debt-free at the end of four years of college!

The Bright Scholars of Iowa Award is given to qualifying Iowa high school seniors who are strong academically but may lack the financial means to enable them to earn a college degree. Students must maintain full-time enrollment in an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science program at SWCC with the intent to transfer to a four-year Regent institution in the state of Iowa.

As part of a Criminal Justice Club fundraiser, SWCC criminal justice students delivered customized teddy bears to local police departments this week for use when comforting young victims of crime or tragedy. 

The criminal justice program had been accepting monetary donations since October for this fundraiser.

Southwestern Community College was recently awarded a $164,375 Coronavirus Relief Registered Apprenticeship Incentive Program for Post-Secondary Institutions grant. The college will utilize its funds to launch an apprenticeship training program for the agronomy industry for the occupations of commercial pesticide applicators and agronomy-related CDL drivers. The Workplace Learning Network (WLN), a member of the Iowa Intermediary Network, housed at Southwestern Community College provides work-based learning activities to Region 14 School Districts through appropriated Iowa Legislative funds. As a requirement of the grant funding, a yearly Business Needs Assessment is sent to business and industry professionals within Region 14, covering school districts: Bedford; Central Decatur; Clarke; Creston; Diagonal; East Union; Lamoni; Lenox; Mormon Trail; Mount Ayr; Murray; Nodaway Valley; Orient-Macksburg; Red Oak; Southwest Valley; and Stanton.

Southwestern Community College's Spring 2021 New Student Orientation will be offered virtually due to large group gathering restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. New students should watch their email for additional details and instructions. Students will register for orientation utilizing the college’s online portal, SWCCyou. The email will provide instructions for how to login to SWCCyou so students may get started.
