Management Information
Systems
The Management Information Systems program provides students
with a balanced background of both business and computer technology
courses. This unique combination of courses will provide students
with a very distinctive and diverse background. The business
classes will cover core topics including: accounting, management,
business law, and communication. The computer technology courses on
the other hand, will give students experience with different
programming languages, project management, software applications
and management information systems. This combination of courses
will prepare students to effectively manage people, technology and
change within the organization. Possible areas of employment would
include: Help Desk or Technical Services, Corporate Trainer, Office
Manager, or Information Technology Manager. Software certifications
may be obtained upon completion of the program.
What is unique about this program?
This major is one of the few available within the state of Iowa
that has a good balance between business and computer courses.
Having such a diverse background will provide students the
opportunity to fit into many different positions within an
organization.
Industry Demand:
The Iowa Outlook 2010 from
Iowa Workforce Development indicates a need for skilled employees
with both a business and computer background occupations are all
expected to increase. Area businesses have also indicated a desire
for employees to have training in the Management Information
Systems field. Graduates of this program will be skilled for
positions that do not require an advanced degree but where an
associate's degree is sufficient for entry-level employment.
Continual training in the computer technology field will be
necessary for anyone interested in entering a Management
Information Systems career.
