Congratulations to the 2015-16 Southwestern Community College baseball team for ranking 20th in the nation for academics!
The 2015-16 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Teams of the Year were announced on July 6, 2016. With a 3.26 overall team GPA, Southwestern landed in the top 20. According to the NJCAA Web site, "A total of 27 teams-–14 men’s and 13 women’s–-were honored for accumulating the highest GPA in their respective sport while meeting the minimum 3.0 requirement." Daytona State (FL) took Academic Team of the Year honors for baseball with an overall team GPA of 3.62.
With 29 student-athletes on the roster, the Spartan team also had 20 individuals who received Academic All-Region honors.
The Spartan baseball team is coached by Pedro Hernandez and assisted by Kenny Namanny.
