Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the Administration Center on the Creston campus.

In personnel, the board approved early retirement requests from Steve Schmalzried, automotive repair technology instructor, and Sharon Dunfee, distance education office assistant.

Schmalzried started at Southwestern as an automotive repair technology instructor in August 2002. During his tenure at SWCC, he has served as the automotive repair lab supervisor and as the chairperson for the trades and industry department. Schmalzried will retire at the end of his current contract.

Dunfee started at SWCC in September 2007. She has served as the office assistant for instruction and distance education, as well as the ICN assistant scheduler. Dunfee’s last day at SWCC will be Aug. 17, 2018.

A short discussion took place among board members regarding the recent upgrades to Omnilert, the campus-wide text messaging system, as well as the network infrastructure.

During the president’s report, Dr. Barb Crittenden reminded the board of spring commencement on Friday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center gymnasium. She also told the board about the athletics department’s Annual Golf Fundraiser scheduled for Friday, May 18, at Crestmoor in Creston.

Beth Kulow, dean of student services, briefed the board on recent academic and athletic successes of SWCC students during the past academic year.

The board held a closed session prior to adjournment of the meeting.
