SWCC students and employees with legislators at capitol

Six Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Student Senate members attended the 30th annual Iowa Association for Community College Trustees (IACCT) Student Legislative Seminar at the state capitol in Des Moines on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018.

Southwestern students Mark Engstrand, Clarinda; Laura Fulz, Corning; Jordan Heath, Osceola; Wendy Kinyon, Corning; Dawn Roach, Blockton; and Chelsea Weis, Stanton, headed to the capitol to meet with area legislators, tour the capitol, and attend conference sessions with other Iowa community college students. Heath was selected as the student to provide the introduction for Governor Kim Reynolds, who spoke during the seminar portion of the event Wednesday afternoon.

During the day, SWCC students had the opportunity to speak with and have their photo taken with Representative Cecil Dolecheck-R, Mount Ayr, and Representative Tom Moore-R, Griswold. The students also met with Representative Joel Fry-R, Osceola.

Dr. Barb Crittenden, SWCC president; Beth Kulow, SWCC dean of students; and Cait Maitlen, SWCC admissions director, accompanied the students to the event.
