On Tuesday, March 13, Southwestern Community College’s Beta Eta Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa elected officers for the 2018-19 year. Officers elected include Cassidy Becker of Diagonal, Shelby Freestone of Adel, Kasydi Klommhaus of Mt. Ayr, Paul Lorenz of Creston, and Hunner Siefkas of Peru.

According to Jody Nedley-Newcomb, Beta Eta Nu chapter co-advisor, electing officers near mid-term of the semester allows current officers and new officers time to work together for continuity of programs for the chapter. The chapter will be looking for one more individual to complete the officer team.

The next Beta Eta Nu meeting will be on Monday, April 9, at 3:30 pm (room to be decided). The Spring Formal Induction is Sunday, April 15, at 3 pm in the Allied Health & Science Center. Any member who has not previously attended an induction is invited. Friends, family, faculty, staff, and administration are welcome.

The SWCC Drama Club will be performing And Then There Were None on Thursday, March 29, and Friday, March 30, at 7 p.m., as well as Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center on the Creston campus.

And Then There Were None features 10 strangers, who are summoned to a remote island. All that the guests have in common is a wicked past they're unwilling to reveal and a secret that will seal their fate, for each has been marked for murder. As the weather turns and the group is cut off from the mainland, the bloodbath begins and one by one they are brutally murdered in accordance with the lines of a sinister nursery rhyme.

Due to issues with the online scholarship application, the deadline for Southwestern Community College’s Education Foundation Scholarships for fall 2018 semester has been extended from March 15 to March 30. We encourage all students who will be attending SWCC this fall to apply for scholarship opportunities.

Southwestern Community College automotive repair technology student Dawn Roach (pictured above, at right) recently wrote an article that has been published in Tomorrow's Technician magazine and on tomorrowstechnician.com.

Roach and her SWCC automotive classmates and instructors traveled to Lincoln, NE, late last year to tour the Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed. The article talks about their trip to the museum, as well as about Roach's decision to enter the automotive field.

Self-proclaimed, all-around cowgirl and motivational speaker Amberley Snyder will be sharing her inspirational story at Southwestern Community College (SWCC) on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at 7 p.m., in the Student Center gymnasium. A free-will donation meal will be served prior to Snyder’s presentation, beginning at 6 p.m., in the upstairs of the SWCC Student Center.

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) students Megan Davenport of Diagonal, Jordan Gehlhaar of Humeston, and Tom Hol of Osceola were honored as members of the 2018 All-Iowa Academic Team during a recognition ceremony held Wed., Feb. 28, 2018, at 6:30 p.m., at the Embassy Suites in Des Moines.
