SWCC students posing in PTK T-shirts at conference

Southwestern Community College's Beta Eta Nu chapter officers, members, and advisors attended the Spring 2020 Iowa Region PTK Convention on Feb. 27-28, 2020, in West Des Moines. Beta Eta Nu is SWCC's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society.

During the convention, the Beta Eta Nu chapter received awards for the following: Five Star Chapter, honorable mention for theme for Honors in Action, and honorable mention for Chapter Officer for SWCC student Ella Rutherford, sophomore, of Niantic, IL.

As hosts, the chapter gathered items for all participants, which included items such as hand sanitizer, Kleenex, cards, note pads and pens, and either an ice scraper or cup. Chapter members performed other tasks such as sorting regional T-shirts for each attending chapter, leading group activities, while also attending breakout sessions, voting for 2020-21 regional officers and more. Chapter attendees were Chase Miner, sophomore, of Leon; Sadie Green, sophomore, of Creston; Royce Bernard, sophomore, of Creston; Tessa Powers, sophomore, of Creston; and Jill Wallace, freshman, of Greenfield.

Kelly Marcus and Jody Nedley-Newcomb attended as chapter advisors.
