Southwestern Community College (SWCC) hosted fall 2020 new member virtual inductions for the Beta Eta Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m., and Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 5:30 p.m.
Beta Eta Nu chapter officers for 2020-21, who were inducted during the ceremonies, include Eric Desbois of Brooklin, Ontario, Canada, vice president; and Matthew Rinehart of Creston, vice president.

During the ceremony led by Jill Wallace, president, and Tessa Powers, vice president, new members took the Phi Theta Kappa oath. Jody Nedley-Newcomb, SWCC Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor, spoke about the value in becoming a member. Nedley-Newcomb told inductees PTK offers invaluable scholarship opportunities at the community college level, as well as when it comes time for transfer from SWCC to the four-year colleges and universities of their choice.
Phi Theta Kappa International accepts applications from eligible students until Dec. 30; however, if the student is a December graduate and the students wants their transcript to indicate PTK, all applications and fees must be turned in by Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020.

Phi Theta Kappa International serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students worldwide. To be eligible for membership, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above.
