The Southwestern Community College Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society held its inaugural Adult Spelling Bee on Saturday, Feb. 29, at A&G in uptown Creston.
Spellers were put through a fun, but sometimes grueling, mental test, and they spelled their hearts out. Contestants also took advantage of purchasing tickets, such as Phone a Friend or Mulligans, that helped them stay in the game.
Judy Gale won the championship with Thelma (Linda) Huffman in second place and Russ Powers in third.
The PTK Honor Society raised funds to help send students to convention. PTK would like to thank everyone for their generous support.
The following donated prizes for the event: Little Green Trailer/Cafe (gift certificate), Ann Coulter (hand-pieced quilted square), the SWCC Drama Club (four tickets to the spring play), and Danny Mitchell (portable DVD player and Hy-Vee gift card).
