School for Music Vocations sophomore Kaprice Maxwell of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has been announced as DownBeat Magazine's 2020 blues/pop/rock soloist winner in the community college division.
This is the 43rd year DownBeat has presented their annual Student Music Awards (SMAs). The musicians honored in this magazine are touted as "some of the finest young musicians on the planet." Former SMA winners mentioned include Norah Jones, Brad Mehldau, Chris Potter, and Kendrick Scott.
DownBeat was established in 1934 in Chicago, Illinois.
