The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of trustees met electronically in special session on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 8:15 a.m.
During the meeting, the board approved the employment of Dr. Daniel Platt as an English instructor for the 2020-21 academic year.
Platt has been a college professor for Graceland University in Lamoni since 2015. He taught courses in composition, film studies, American literature, and ethnic American literature. Prior to teaching at Graceland, he served as the assistant director for the Center for Teaching Writing at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.
He earned a Ph.D. in English, Master of Nonprofit Management degree, and a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Oregon; as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and English from the College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey.
Lindsay Stoaks, SWCC vice president of instruction, said, “Platt is an enthusiastic instructor who blends traditional teaching methods with innovative and creative instructional techniques.”
Fall classes got underway at SWCC on Aug. 19.
