Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 5:30 p.m., for its regular board meeting.
Tom Lesan, SWCC vice president of economic development, shared with the board information about the agreement reached with the Education Association. The agreement included a salary increase of 2.54% to last year’s base, plus $2 per day. Full-time regular contracts are based upon 167 days of employment. The board moved to approve the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the SWCC Education Association and SWCC as presented.
In personnel, the board accepted the resignation of Jina Checketts, nursing instructor, and Elyse Lovell, psychology instructor. The board also approved the employment of Jenni Downing as psychology instructor.
Lindsay Stoaks, SWCC vice president of instruction, shared information with the board about SWCC’s building partnership contract with Habitat for Humanity. This is the eighth year of the joint project, which will see the construction of a home on Habitat for Humanity owned property at 509 S. Maple St. in Creston. The project provides required lab experience for students without incurring the expense and risk associated with building a spec home. The board moved to approve the building partnership contract with Habitat for Humanity.
The board moved to approve amendments to three board policies: Speech and Expression at Public Institutions, Executive Limitations: Budgeting, and Executive Limitations: Financial Condition.
During the president’s report, Stoaks provided a virtual tour of last year’s Habitat for Humanity home located at 706 N. Jarvis St. The home is 1,092 square feet, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Board Member Jerry Smith provided a brief update of June’s virtual IACCT meeting. Emily Shields, executive director at IACCT, will attend the September board meeting.
