Southwestern Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter, Beta Eta Nu, traveled to Denver for Catalyst, the international conference for members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, from April 7-10, 2022, and came home with a variety of recognitions.
SWCC honors at this year’s PTK Catalyst conference included:
- SWCC freshman Wiley Ray of Orient, the incoming president of Beta Eta Nu, participated in Catalyst’s first-ever esports tournament (playing Rocket League), and his team earned a third place finish.
- SWCC President Marjorie McGuire-Welch received the “Paragon Award” for new college presidents in recognition of her support for “student success initiatives leading to stronger pathways to completion, transfer, and employment.”
- SWCC PTK Advisor Emerita Jody Nedley-Newcomb received the “Distinguished Advisor” award in recognition of her years of service and success as PTK faculty advisor at SWCC.
In addition, Joe Pastorino and Dr. Dan Platt, current SWCC PTK faculty advisors, attended the conference.
Catalyst brings together hundreds of Phi Theta Kappa members and advisors from across the country and around the world to network, share ideas, and be celebrated for their achievements in scholarship and service. This year’s Catalyst was the first to be held in-person since 2019.
