Southwestern students and employees were at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines on Thursday, March 3, 2022, to celebrate Community College Day on the Hill and the Student Legislative Seminar.

During Community College Day on the Hill, Shawn Oaks, Southwestern industrial technology instructor, and Lane O'Brien of Corydon, industrial technology student, spoke with legislators and capitol visitors about SWCC's industrial technology program and the benefits of earning a college degree in industrial technology.

As part of the Student Legislative Seminar, Cait Maitlen, SWCC Student Senate sponsor, accompanied SWCC Student Senate members Kylie Shackelford of Clarinda, Cody Winkler of Lorimor, Brenna Bruns of Greenfield, and Wiley Ray of Orient. The group spent the day listening to speakers, meeting with legislators, and touring the capitol.
