DownBeat Magazine’s Student Music Awards were announced in the June issue, which was released earlier today, and the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) School for Music Vocations (SMV) had three current students and one future student honored in the issue.
SWCC current students honored (and the awards they received) follow:
- Aviana Gedler, sophomore, of West Des Moines, Vocal Jazz Soloist, Community College Winner
- Hannah Goodwin, sophomore, of Coeur D Alene, Idaho, Vocal Jazz Soloist, Community College Winner
- Elijah Thiessen, freshman, of Marshalltown, Vocal Jazz Soloist, Community College Outstanding Performance
- Aviana Gedler, sophomore, of West Des Moines, Engineered Studio Recording, Community College Winner
In addition, Jesse Iroanyah (pictured at right) of Carpentersville, IL, who has attended the SWCC School for Music Vocations Vocal Jazz Camp and is an incoming freshman for the fall 2022 semester, was honored as a Vocal Jazz Soloist—High School Honors Winner.
Students are directed by Dr. Jeremy Fox and Tobi Crawford, SWCC School for Music Vocations faculty members.
