Brandi Shay, SWCC chief financial officer

Tuesday, June 13, 2023, CRESTON, IOWA—Brandi Shay of Tingley was announced today as Southwestern Community College’s chief financial officer.

Shay, who will begin her duties on July 5, is no stranger to Southwestern. She worked at the college as the Small Business Development Center regional director from June 2015-July 2018 and was a business instructor from August 2001-December 2011.

During her time at Southwestern, she was a leader in the business and information technology department, serving as department chair from 2005-08 and as a member of the following committees: curriculum committee, student retention committee, and financial aid appeals committee. She was the advisor for Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE).

Most recently, Shay has been a business analyst for United Farmers Cooperative. In addition to working for United Farmers Cooperative, Shay is the owner of The Shay Company, performing accounting and financial services for farmers and landowners, as well as providing consulting in the accounting and finance fields. She served a two-year stint, August 2018-September 2020, as an assistant professor of accounting at Graceland University in Lamoni.

Southwestern Interim President Lindsay Stoaks said Shay was a standout with the hiring committee and feels Shay will be an invaluable addition to Southwestern’s leadership team.

“Brandi’s extensive experience in finance and education, coupled with her strong leadership and communication skills, have prepared her very well for this position,” said Stoaks. “We are fortunate to have her return home to Southwestern to serve as the college’s chief financial officer.”

Shay holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), with an emphasis in agribusiness, from Iowa State University; a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Iowa State University; and an Associate of Arts degree from Southwestern Community College.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Shay is active in Southwest Iowa Women in Ag; is a Ringgold County Development project volunteer; serves as the director for the Mount Ayr Community School board of education; and is a board member for the Raider Education Foundation.

She lives on a farm near Tingley with her husband, Tory. They have three children: Addison, Adler, and Adden.
