Last week, Southwestern Community College's TRIO-Student Support Services (SSS) program was notified two SWCC TRIO-SSS members--Alexis Beberniss, of Lenox, and Brenna Bruns, of Greenfield--were selected for scholarships from the state TRIO-SSS organization.
Beberniss, who earned an Associate of Arts degree from SWCC in May 2023, was awarded the Iowa TRIO Board of Directors Scholarship. Bruns, who plans to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in automotive repair technology in June 2023, was selected for the Iowa TRIO Achievement Award. Beberniss will transfer to Wayne State College and continue her studies this fall. Bruns, who has earned a certificate and diploma in automotive repair technology, plans to continue her studies at Southwestern in the fall related to business.
Each year, students from secondary and post-secondary Iowa TRIO programs are nominated by TRIO professionals for scholarships through the regional Educational Opportunity Association (EOA). The EOA regional association covers 10 states: Iowa, Ohio, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, and Kansas. Students have opportunities to compete for both state scholarships and regional scholarships.
