Creston, IOWA—Two great artists, The Four Freshmen, the legendary vocal jazz/instrumental ensemble, and Nancy King, a Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist, will headline the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) 15th annual vocal jazz festival, now titled Fox Fest. Both artists will perform in concert on Friday, February 24, and Saturday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center.  Limited tickets will be available to the public each night at a cost of $25 per ticket.

The Four Freshmen have been in demand as the founding fathers of vocal jazz since the late-40s. Although their longevity has required they keep rotating in fresh talent, their current personnel have now been together for more than 10 years. Founding member Bob Flannigan states they are currently the best Four Freshmen group of all times.  Gene Puerling, founding member of the Hi-Lo’s and The Singers Unlimited, often gave credit to The Four Freshmen as being his primary inspiration and influence when he began his career. Whether performing with a full symphonic orchestra, in front of a big band, or playing self-contained, their unmistakable sound continues to thrill audiences all over the world.

Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Nancy King has been performing for the last 20 years with the jazz giants of the industry. She is known for her heart-breaking nuance, inspiring improvisation, and innovative interpretations.  According to Front Row Center, “King is one of America’s top jazz singers … the scat-singing heiress apparent to Ella Fitzgerald.”

SWCC’s Fox Fest will encompass two full days of clinics and hands-on workshops.  High school and college ensembles from across the United States will participate in the festival.
