The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Chamber Singers will be presenting Holiday Carols in Concert in the SWCC Performing Arts Center on Sun., December 13, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets prices for the Creston concert are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.

December 18, 2012, CRESTON, IA—Southwestern Community College (SWCC) has announced as of today, Steve Tussey of Orient will be the interim head coach for the Spartans’ women’s basketball team. Tussey succeeds Brett Gilcrist, who has been head coach for the Spartans since 2010. Earlier this week, Gilcrist cited personal reasons for leaving in his letter of resignation.

For the third year in a row, Southwestern Community College's Student Senate has adopted a family for the holidays through the Rural Iowa Crisis Center. The group's donation of gifts and food were delivered to the Rural Iowa Crisis Center on Mon., December 17. The donation for the group's adopted family was worth more than $200.
The Rural Iowa Crisis Center provides safety and support services to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Adams, Ringgold, Taylor and Union counties in southwest Iowa.

The 2012 SWCC Ugly Sweater Contest was held Thurs., December 13, at noon in the Student Center. There was a three-way tie for first place. CRESTON — The Trio Educational Talent Search (ETS) program at Southwestern Community College is offering free ACT Test prep courses for all ETS high school participants the morning of Saturday, January 5, 2013.
Two options are available for students who attend:
Option 1 – 8 a.m. to noon. Students who choose Option 1 will be participating in a mock exam consisting of the same conditions as the official ACT exam.
Option 2 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students who choose Option 2 will attend three break-out sessions (math, English/reading and science).

The Southwestern Community College Chamber Singers will perform Holiday Carols in Concert this Sunday, December 9, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the SWCC Performing Arts Center theater. Cost of admission is $10 a person and $5 for students and seniors.
The repertoire will include works by Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Christiansen, Shaw, Burt, and Mattson. It will be directed by conductor Ryan Howe, SWCC professional music instructor.

SWCC students and faculty are hosting SWCC's first-ever Fall Poster Day, on Thursday, December 6, from noon-1 p.m. in room 180 of the Instructional Center. During Poster Day, SWCC students will be sharing research projects they have been working on during the fall 2012 semester. Topics will range from psychology to biology to environmental issues. Posters will be on display and the presenters will be available for questions during this hour-long event.

The Southwestern Community College carpentry & building trades programs are hosting a spaghetti dinner this Thursday, December 6, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at the Osceola Hy-Vee Cafeteria. The cost is $6 per person.
Funds raised during this event will assist with expenses incurred during the carpentry program's home rebuilding trips.

The Southwestern Community College Chamber Singers will be on tour this week presenting "Holiday Carols in Concert" in the Des Moines area. ALL concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. A free-will offering will be taken. The concerts will feature works by Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Christiansen, Shaw, Burt and Mattson. Students come to Creston from across the country and even outside of the United States to complete Southwestern’s professional music degree. The talent of this group is incredible. Ryan Howe, SWCC professional music instructor, will be the conductor.
