Monday, January 19, 2015, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. As Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s wife, said, “The greatness of a COMMUNITY is most accurately MEASURED BY the COMPASSIONATE ACTIONS of its members…a HEART of grace and a SOUL generated by LOVE.”
The student activities department challenges each of you to go out today, Saturday, and Sunday and do random acts of kindness. Not just kindness shown to the people you care about, but reach out to those in need. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is not a “day off” but a “day on” to serve each other, to make our neighborhoods and communities better places.
On Monday, when students come to class, there will be a wall in the Student Center for them to post the random acts of kindness they completed, or kindness that was shown to them, or to post inspiring words for others to read.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is not only for celebration and remembrance, education and tribute, but above all a day of service.
"All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence."
‐ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
