On Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, Kattie Lewis, Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Red Oak Center coordinator, & Diogenes Ayala, SWCC criminal justice instructor, attended the fourth annual National Night Out in Red Oak at Fountain Square Park, from 6-8 p.m.
The National Night Out is held to build camaraderie in the community and coincides with the National Night Out celebrated across the nation. Red Oak Police Officer Brad Baker is the organizer for this event that provides information, music, food, and entertainment for the public. Agencies from across the state were present including the Iowa State Patrol, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, BNSF Police, and the Iowa Division of Natural Resources.
Lewis and Ayala were able to make contacts with various agencies to provide information for students in SWCC's criminal justice program. The Red Oak Center and the Red Oak Police Department have had a great relationship during the last few years benefiting students and the community. National Night Out in Red Oak was a great success and the college looks forward to participating again in the future.
