Elevate Advanced Manufacturing has awarded a $500 scholarship to Jacob Hoveland, a senior at Mt. Ayr High School, who will attend Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in Creston this fall.
Hoveland is one of 15 Elevate scholarship winners throughout Iowa. He will major in welding technology at SWCC.
“I have always enjoyed the process of taking a pile of materials and turning it into a useful end product. I look forward to creating, fixing, and crafting for a future employer,” stated Hoveland. “I appreciate that this scholarship is focused on the manufacturing field and gives an opportunity for students in a technical area to receive funding.”
He is the son of Dwight and Jacque Hoveland of Redding.
In addition to the $500 scholarship, Elevate scholarship recipients will be honored at the Legends in Manufacturing Award Ceremony in October.
Elevate Advanced Manufacturing is a non-profit initiative spreading the word about career opportunities in manufacturing. The 15-$500 scholarship awards have been given to high school seniors who are going to attend Iowa community colleges in the fall for careers in advanced manufacturing.
