Welding Skills Competition Guidelines:
Team competition requires four team members. Each high school is encouraged to have a local competition to determine the high school's four team members for the Southwestern Welding Skills Challenge. Each school may select one alternate to bring as well.
Individual Skills Contest - This contest is limited to the first 40 participants who are registered by a high school teacher or representative. Competitors will rotate through four welding stations, including oxy-acetylene, stick, GMAW/MIG, and a written test. Local welding experts will serve as the judges for the hands-on competition. The scores will be tallied and the top five individuals will be recognized.
Team Contest - Prizes will be awarded to the top three high school teams. The winners will be determined by the five highest individual scores.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All participants are responsible for their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including: FR cotton or leather welding jacket, helmet, clear safety glasses, gloves, long pants, and boots. Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the lab. Students who do not have the PPE listed above will not be allowed to participate.
