Students and employees involved in partnership program

CRESTON — Representatives from Southwestern Community College (SWCC) were on-hand in early-August, at Osceola Foods, a local manufacturing facility owned by Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE:HRL), to sign six Osceola Food employees for SWCC’s applied engineering technology program. In addition, two students will be returning for the second year of SWCC’s applied engineering technology program.

Osceola Foods employees selected for the training include Eric Brunner, Jonathan Day, Michael Glawe, Joseph Kreuger, Jose Regalado, and Jesse Taggart. Nathan Burk and Andres Hurtado will be returning for their second year of SWCC applied engineering technology courses.

These individuals went through a rigorous in-house screening and testing process at Osceola Foods to qualify to be sponsored by the industry in SWCC’s applied engineering technology program. The students started classes at SWCC on Wednesday, Aug. 23, for the fall 2023 semester.

Formerly called industrial technology, the applied engineering technology program at SWCC trains individuals to develop skills in various areas of manufacturing and troubleshooting while looking on from an engineering perspective. Students in the program hone their skills in hands-on labs such as welding, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatics, and blueprint reading. By the end of the two-year program, students are able to analyze and troubleshoot complete system operation, recognize failures, and impact efficiencies.
