Southwestern Community College (SWCC) business and information technology students Ethan Blomme of Bridgewater, Christian Hansen of Benton, and Logan Moyer of Bedford came home from the 2024 Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Student Leadership Conference in Chicago with a first-place finish in the Administrative Support Team category.
The conference brought together an estimated 6,000 delegates from across the country to vie for top honors in business and information technology skills competitions, attend leadership and professional development workshops, receive awards for community service activities, and elect BPA’s 2024–25 national student leadership team.
SWCC students and their national placings follow:
- Ethan Blomme, business major, AA degree: fifth place, Banking & Finance; fifth place, Financial Math & Analysis Concepts; seventh place, Digital Communication & Design Concepts; and ninth place, College Accounting
- Christian Hansen, liberal arts major, AA degree: second place, Banking & Finance; third place, Financial Math & Analysis Concepts; and fourth place, Administrative Support Concepts
- Logan Moyer, business administration major, AAS degree: 10th place, Financial Math & Analysis Concepts

While in Chicago, the SWCC students had opportunities to attend a number of leadership workshops. In their spare time, they toured the Starbucks Roastery and the Federal Reserve Money Museum, walked out on the Skydeck at Willis Tower, and ate a lot of deep-dish Chicago pizza.
“For students and chapter advisors attending the National Leadership Conference, the event is the culmination of a year’s work,” said Steven J. Mitchell, BPA’s executive director/CEO.
