CRESTON — The TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program at Southwestern Community College is offering free ACT Test prep courses for all ETS high school participants the morning of Sat., January 10, 2015.

Research and display boards made by SWCC students in various classes will be available for perusing during the fall 2014 Poster Day on Wed., December 3, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., in the downstairs hallways of the Student Center. Please stop by to view and evaluate the posters on display.
The event is sponsored by the SWCC Undergraduate Research Committee (SWCCUR), which promotes innovative, creative use of critical thinking in the process of gaining and developing knowledge.

The SWCC School for Music Vocations' Chamber Singers will be on tour performing Holiday Carols in Concert, December 1-5, in the Des Moines area. Nightly concerts starting at 7:30 p.m. will be open to the public with a free-will donation. Tommy Boynton will be the conductor.
The Chamber Singers tour schedule follows:
- Mon., December 1, First Methodist Church, Winterset
- Tues., December 2, St. Paul Presbyterian Church, Johnston
- Wed., December 3, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Des Moines
- Thurs., December 4, Central Presbyterian Church, Des Moines
- Fri., December 5, Grace Lutheran Church, Des Moines
The Chamber Singers will present their holiday concert locally on Sun., December 14, at 7:30 p.m., in the SWCC Performing Arts Center. Admission for this event is $10/person. Students and seniors are $5/person.

Southwestern Community College’s 2nd Annual Advanced Industrial and Technology (AIT) Exploration Day was a great success! During the event, a select group of students and their instructors from across southwest Iowa spent the day touring two local industries, Vanmark and Wellman Dynamics. It was a fantastic learning experience as the tours reinforced in the students the practical applications of the Employability Skills and the Technology Literacy components set out by the Iowa Common Core.

The Iowa Department of Management and Public Health is pleased to announce that the SWCC Parents as Teachers (PAT), Southwestern Community College of Adair and Union counties has earned the Iowa Family Support Credential. The SWCC PAT program is the 54th Iowa program to earn this honored distinction. The Iowa Family Support Credential is awarded to family support and parent education programs that are validated through an external evaluation to be in substantial adherence to the Iowa Family Support Standards.

In celebration of SWCC Week, tonight's men's basketball game at 6:30 p.m. vs Wartburg will feature FREE Spartan Nation T-shirts (while supplies last). Spectators, bring a canned good with you and get in FREE to the game. At half-time, a "chosen instructor" will get a Pie in the Face.
Head to the library today to make a donation toward the instructor of your choice. The instructor with the most money at the end of the day today wins a Pie in the Face at tonight's game.
Students, if you don't already have your ticket for Thursday's SWCC Week movie night, head to admissions in the Administration Center to get one. Bring your student ID with you when you come.

David Vollmar, strategic account manager for Alliant Energy, made a visit to Southwestern Community College last Friday to deliver a $50,547 rebate check to the college. Rebate incentives are available from Alliant for energy efficiency projects in new and existing commercial, industrial or agricultural facilities. The college has completed a number of these projects recently such as renovation of the 100-bay classrooms, Learning Resource Center lighting, and residence hall construction.

The Education Foundation hosted the college’s annual Donor Scholar Dinner Tues., November 4, starting at 6 p.m., in room 180 of the Instructional Center. This event provides opportunities for the SWCC scholarship recipients to meet the donors who provided the funding for their scholarships through the college’s Education Foundation.

Ready for the dancing skills of your club, organization, or athletic team to go viral? We challenge you to Step Up @ SWCC!
All athletic teams and clubs/organizations are invited to enter. Choose a song, choreograph a dance & later have the video recorded right here on SWCC’s campus.
The videos will be judged by individuals pre-selected on campus and later posted on the SWCC Facebook page during SWCC Week. There will be a club/team selected as the "Judge’s Pick" and a "Fan Favorite" selected based on the most ‘likes’ on Facebook.
Registration and song selection must be submitted to Cait Maitlen, admissions coordinator, at
RULES:
- ALL songs must be pre-approved by November 7
- ALL video recording must take place on SWCC’s campus
- Videos will be recorded the week of November 10
- Dance moves and attire must be appropriate
- Clubs/teams with sponsors/coaches in the video will receive extra points from judges
