High school students were on Southwestern Community College's campus today, Thursday, March 24, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., competing in the 2022 Welding Skills Challenge and Industry Career Fair.

Iowa’s community colleges were awarded $2 million in federal funding for the College and Career Transition Counselor (CCTC) Initiative as a part of the omnibus spending bill approved by Congress and signed by President Biden last week. The Community Project Funding was supported by Iowa Representative Marianette Miller-Meeks and will support shared positions between high schools and community colleges statewide.

Grammy-nominated vocal supergroup saje will be guest artists for Southwestern's School for Music Vocations' (SMV) annual vocal festival, April 7-9, 2022. The quartet will be performing two public concerts at 6 and 8 p.m., on the evening of Friday, April 8, in SWCC's Performing Arts Center.

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of trustees held its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 5:30 p.m.
The first action item on the agenda was consideration of the fiscal year 2023 budget. A public hearing was held and no oral or written objections or petitions were heard or submitted. The board approved the budget as presented.

During the Iowa Regional Leadership Conference for Phi Theta Kappa, Feb. 24-25, 2022, in Ankeny, Southwestern Community College (SWCC) student Wiley Ray of Orient and faculty members Joe Pastorino and Dr. Dan Platt, both advisors for SWCC's Phi Theta Kappa chapter, joined dozens of other Iowa honor students and faculty advisors for two days of education and celebration.

Southwestern students and employees were at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines on Thursday, March 3, 2022, to celebrate Community College Day on the Hill and the Student Legislative Seminar.
During Community College Day on the Hill, Shawn Oaks, Southwestern industrial technology instructor, and Lane O'Brien of Corydon, industrial technology student, spoke with legislators and capitol visitors about SWCC's industrial technology program and the benefits of earning a college degree in industrial technology.

Two Southwestern Community College (SWCC) students, Kaci Abildtrup of Creston, and Thomas Esterhuyse of Western Cape, South Africa, were honored as members of the 2022 All-Iowa Academic Team during a recognition ceremony sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and held Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 6 p.m., at the Embassy Suites in Des Moines.
