On October 14-15, 2021, SWCC students Chase Miner, Phi Theta Kappa chapter president, and Thomas Esterhuyse, Phi Theta Kappa vice president of leadership, joined dozens of other Iowa honor students at the Iowa Regional Leadership Conference for Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). Also representing SWCC at the conference were Dan Platt, English instructor and PTK faculty advisor, and Jody Nedley-Newcomb, adjunct sociology instructor and PTK advisor emerita.

Southwestern Community College's criminal justice program welcomed guest speakers Alex Murphy and Nicci Gregg to class on Oct. 14, 2021, to teach students about child welfare. Murphy is a social worker 3, while Gregg is a supervisor with the Department of Human Services.

Iowa State Senator Tom Shipley was on campus today touring SWCC's home simulation-lab, constructed for the electrical technology and carpentry and building trades programs. This lab area, located in the Agricultural Sciences Center, simulates a real home allowing students opportunities to complete hands-on tasks related to their career fields in a safe and structured environment.

Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at 5:30 p.m., in the board room of the Administration Center.
The board approved consent agenda items, including the tentative agenda, payables, and depository resolution.

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Red Oak Center is hosting a Nursing Program Open House, on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 4-7 p.m., to feature the college’s nursing program and highlight Red Oak’s registered nursing offerings. Future SWCC students and the general public are invited to attend.

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) has signed and returned to the Department Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) program which provides Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
