High school seniors who are headed directly to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) for the fall 2021 semester now have an additional scholarship possibility to consider applying for this spring. This scholarship has the potential to allow the recipient/s to graduate debt-free at the end of four years of college!
The Bright Scholars of Iowa Award is given to qualifying Iowa high school seniors who are strong academically but may lack the financial means to enable them to earn a college degree. Students must maintain full-time enrollment in an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science program at SWCC with the intent to transfer to a four-year Regent institution in the state of Iowa.

As part of a Criminal Justice Club fundraiser, SWCC criminal justice students delivered customized teddy bears to local police departments this week for use when comforting young victims of crime or tragedy.
The criminal justice program had been accepting monetary donations since October for this fundraiser.

Southwestern Community College was recently awarded a $164,375 Coronavirus Relief Registered Apprenticeship Incentive Program for Post-Secondary Institutions grant. The college will utilize its funds to launch an apprenticeship training program for the agronomy industry for the occupations of commercial pesticide applicators and agronomy-related CDL drivers. Throughout the 2,000-hour registered apprenticeship program, participants will have the opportunity to earn the following industry-recognized third-party certifications:

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of trustees held their regular board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was held electronically due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wanting to earn additional college credits during winter break? Southwestern offers a four-week online winterim session from Dec. 23-Jan. 22. Courses are available in a variety of subject areas including art, business, health, humanities, government, psychology, and sociology.

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) has signed and returned the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act certification and agreement form and intends to use the funds to provide the mandated amount of at least 50 percent of the emergency financial aid grants to students.
