Members of the Southwestern Spartan Welding Club traveled to Pella on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, to tour Vermeer Corporation, which is an industrial and agricultural equipment manufacturer.

Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met Tues., October 9, 2018, at 5:30 p.m., in the Administration Center on the Creston campus.
During the meeting, Dr. Tony Cass, of Creston, was re-elected as president of the college’s board. Cass, who has served on the SWCC board since February 2009, was the board’s vice president from 2015-17, and was elected as president for the first time in October 2017. Fred Shearer, of Corning, was re-elected as vice president of the college’s board of trustees. Shearer joined the SWCC board in 2002 and became vice president in 2017. SWCC Assistant to the President Mary Jo Skarda was appointed as board secretary and SWCC Chief Financial Officer Tia Samo was appointed as board treasurer.
The board re-appointed the following members to the Education Foundation board for the 2018-19 year: Amy Hook of Creston, Randy Huewe of Creston, Rick Oshel of Osceola, Allen Pohren of Red Oak, Jerry Smith of Osceola, Alec Turner of Corning, and Dr. Barb Crittenden, SWCC representative.

Creston, IOWA--Iowa’s community colleges, including Southwestern Community College, are calling on Iowa small business owners to apply for Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, which will come to Iowa for the first time beginning in January 2019. The program, which is provided at no cost, and is offered in partnership with Iowa’s community colleges, includes curriculum developed by Babson College – recently named No. 1 for Entrepreneurship by U.S. News & World Report for the 22nd year in a row.

Southwestern's National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Club held its first meeting of the 2018-19 academic year on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at noon, in the Instructional Center, room 135.

Business and industry registration is now open for the 2018 CTE Day Vendor Fair at Southwestern Community College (SWCC) on October 19, 2018, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. This fair will be a part of CTE Day, which brings hundreds of high school students to SWCC's campus each year.
