The SWCC Computer Club is hosting a breakfast fundraiser on Tues., September 20, from 7:30-10:30 a.m., at a mobile food cart that will be set up in front of the Administration Center.

Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of trustees met Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the Administration Center on the Creston campus.
Phil Tyler, Tyler Insurance Services, Inc., spoke with the board about the college’s insurance coverage. Tyler noted an increase of 2 percent in the college’s property blanket coverage due primarily to an across-the-board inflation guard on the policy. Tyler said the college’s Worker’s Compensation Modification Factor decreased from 1.04 to 1.03.

Southwestern’s Educational Talent Search (ETS) staff invites seniors (from all eight of the ETS high schools—Bedford, Clarke, Creston, East Union, Lenox, Orient-Macksburg, Murray, and Southwest Valley) and their parents to attend FAFSA Ready Iowa to complete financial aid paperwork on Wed., October 26, 2016, from 3-7 p.m., in the college’s Instructional Center, rooms 208 and 210.
During this event, students and parents will complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) together with assistance from college personnel. All students who plan to attend college following high school graduation are strongly encouraged to attend. Students and parents may drop in any time during the event hours, 3-7 p.m. Appointments will last approximately 30 minutes.

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) will host its annual Community Awareness Day this Wed., September 14, from 9-11 a.m. in the main hallway of the Instructional Center. A variety of community agencies will be on-hand to provide information to SWCC students and staff about the services they provide. Faculty are welcome to bring their classes through the event!

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) baseball team is hosting a Mud Volleyball Tournament on Sat., September 17, starting at 1 p.m., on the north side of campus near the Spartan baseball field. It is open to students, employees, and the general public. Teams should have 10 people (at least three females) and the registration fee is $10 per person. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) admissions department invites future SWCC students to pick a Friday during the 2016-17 school year and come tour the Creston campus, get their admissions and program-related questions answered, and enjoy a free lunch at the Spartan Café during “Your Friday, Your Future @ SWCC.”

Atlantic developers Don and Austin Sonntag, grandfather/grandson duo and owners of Sonntag Development, LLC, recently donated $5,000 to Southwestern Community College’s Education Foundation to be utilized for student scholarships. Don would like to challenge businesses and other entities in the college’s region to match the donation in order to build the number of scholarships available to Southwestern’s students.

Registrations are now being accepted for The Road to Success conference, being sponsored by IowaWorks and SWCC adult and continuing education, on Tues., October 18, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., in room 180 of the Instructional Center.
