Southwestern Community College auto collision repair/refinish student Shelby Woods and electrical technology student Daniel Leonard took home first place honors at the Iowa SkillsUSA 2016 competition in Ankeny on Fri., April 29, 2016. They will now represent Iowa at the national competition, which will be held during SkillsUSA’s National Leadership and Skills Conference, June 20-24, 2016, in Louisville, KY.

Woods, of Madison, MO, was named gold medalist in automotive refinishing technology. She earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in collision repair/refinish from SWCC in early-May.

Leonard, of Mount Ayr, won the electrical construction wiring category. He will earn his Associate of Applied Science degree in electrical technology in June.

Other SWCC students medaling in the SkillsUSA state competition included:

• Harley Baumfalk of Afton, carpentry, third place
• Jonathan Duncan of Villisca, electrical construction wiring, third place
• Adam Steffes of Audubon, collision repair technology, third place

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Drama Club is hosting Little Spartan Drama Camp for children ages four through 12 from Mon., June 27-Thurs., June 30 at the Performing Arts Center on the SWCC Creston campus.  The children will be divided into the following age groups:

Take a break from finals and head to the Student Center for the Stress Free Zone on Wed., May 4, 2016, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  There will be food, fun, and activities to get your mind off of the books for a while.

The SWCC Shoppe is having a finals week BOGO sale from May 2-6, 2016.  Buy one SWCC apparel item/souvenir and receive half off the second item of equal or lesser value.  Textbook buyback is also underway this week.  When headed to the SWCC Shoppe for buyback, please have your student ID and original receipt with you at the buy back counter.  Book buyback funds may be used toward BOGO purchases.

NOTE:  The BOGO sale is not valid on textbooks, supplies, candy or ice cream.

Tickets are now on sale for the SWCC drama club’s presentation of The Foreigner on April 28, 29, and 30 at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center theater. Ticket prices are $7 for the general public and $5 for students.

Southwestern's athletic department is hosting its 17th Annual Four-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament on Sat., May 28, 2016, at Crestmoor Golf Club in Creston.  Tee times are 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
