The Southwestern Community College board of trustees held its regular meeting on Tues., March 8, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the board room of the Administration Center.
A public hearing was held for the college’s fiscal year 2017 budget. No oral or written objections or petitions were heard or submitted. The board approved the budget as presented.

Register now for the Tie Dye Retro Run 5K Run/Walk! You guessed it, there will be color stations throughout the run. The race will take place in conjunction with PIF Week on April 18, 2016, starting at 5:30 p.m. The run/walk will begin north of the Performing Arts Center (view the Retro Run Map).

Registration is $20 per person and includes a race T-shirt. Registration may be paid at the SWCC business office in the Administration Center or by credit card at 641.782.1448. Checks should be made out to Southwestern Community College. Shirts for non-participants may be purchased for $10 each.
Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Business Professionals of America (BPA) are sponsoring the 5K walk/run event during Pay it Forward (PIF) Week to raise funds for their organizations.

Southwestern Community College is celebrating its 50th anniversary during 2016. The college will host a come and go Open House on Sat., April 16, from 2-4 p.m. in the Student Center, on the Creston campus, 1501 W Townline Street, in celebration of this milestone. The public is invited.

Southwestern Community College's Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Beta Eta Nu, will be hosting its formal induction for new members on Sun., April 3, 2016, at 3 p.m., in the Instructional Center, room 180. All new Phi Theta Kappa members for the 2015-16 school year, their families, and friends are invited to attend. Southwestern faculty and staff members are encouraged to attend as well.

On March 8, 2016, Ron Cain, former Southwestern Community College math instructor, donated a da Vinci XYZ model 3-D printer to the college's math and physics department. Wade Sick, math and physics instructor, accepted the donation on behalf of the college.

Attention SWCC Nursing Graduates! You are invited to attend a Nursing Alumni Gathering on Sat., April 16, 2016, from 1-2 p.m. in the college's Allied Health & Science Center at 1501 W. Townline Street in Creston.
This informal gathering will give you the opportunity to reunite with classmates, as well as past and present nursing faculty members. During the event, the nursing department's new simulation lab will be open for tours.

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) students Garrett Abell, of Cromwell, and Blythe Beck, of Sharpsburg, were honored as members of the 2016 All-Iowa Academic Team during a recognition ceremony held Wed., March 2, 2016, 6:30 p.m., at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown in Des Moines.

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) sophomore Tom Hol, from Osceola, was elected as vice president of the southwest district for the Phi Theta Kappa Iowa Region during the Iowa Regional Convention, held February 26-27, at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Urbandale.

Representatives from the University of Iowa, Southwestern Community College (SWCC), and the Creston Community School District came together on Wed., March 2, 2016, at 10 a.m., at Creston High School, to discuss a new statewide scholarship program available to high school students in the Creston district who plan to go directly to the UI or transfer to the UI after graduating from SWCC.
