Approximately 90 percent of Americans own at least one car, and 55 percent own two or more vehicles.  Americans drive 2.25 trillion miles per year.  Their vehicles consume 140 billion gallons of fuel per year.  Annually, motorists in the United States spend $100 billion on vehicle insurance.  They also use more than $300 billion of credit in the purchase and maintenance of vehicles.
