High school students from Southwestern Community College’s region have a unique online learning opportunity this summer! Beginning June 8, Southwestern is offering three credit courses from the pre-nursing outline; due to state funding through the Summer College Credit Program, students are eligible to complete these courses free of charge!

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) has signed and returned the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act certification and agreement form and intends to use the funds to provide the mandated amount of at least 50 percent of the emergency financial aid grants to students.

As of today, the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) facilities remain closed to the general public and walk-in traffic. With many of the restrictions in the state being lifted, the college is taking measured steps to responsibly and safely transition employees back to the workplace and adjust the summer schedule of classes to ensure the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff. The college has worked closely with local public health officials, as well as considered guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), to begin carrying out the transition.

Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met electronically for their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was held electronically due to social distancing requirements related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks to everyone who watched the SWCC 2020 Virtual Graduation Ceremony this weekend! At this point, the ceremony has more than 1,800 views and that number continues to grow. The ceremony originally aired on Friday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. The 2020 Virtual Graduation ceremony will continue to be available online, so please let friends and family know they can continue to watch and share it with others. We have loved seeing all the graduate slides that were posted on social media as well.

The SWCC Shoppe, Southwestern Community College's bookstore, has partnered with MBS Textbook Exchange, the nation's largest textbook wholesaler, to offer you the best prices for your used books online. This online buyback will be open from May 4-8, 2020.

Summer Books - The SWCC Shoppe is here to help with all summer book and supply needs. An online form, the SWCC Shoppe Textbook Order Form, is available for students taking summer classes. The SWCC Shoppe will be shipping textbooks for the summer term beginning May 4, 2020.

A new video by the Boston Children's Chorus (Robbie Jacobs, director of artistic programming) features an arrangement, by Southwestern's School for Music Vocations Faculty Member Dr. Jeremy Fox, of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." This virtual choir video features more than 200 children from around the world – from Boston, Massachusetts; Washington DC; Capetown, London, UK; Moscow, Russia; Bangalore, India; Southend, UK; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Princeton, U.S.; and Tallin, Estonia; Denver, Colorado; Singapore International School in Hong Kong; Tucson, Arizona – and a wonderful soloist named Andrea Baker, who resides in Dublin, Ireland.
