Lindsay Stoaks

Feb. 12, 2020, CRESTON, Iowa—During their regular meeting last evening, the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of trustees approved the appointment of Lindsay Stoaks of Lenox as the college’s vice president of instruction, upon the recommendation of Dr. Barb Crittenden, college president, effective Feb. 17, 2020.

Feb. 12, 2020, CRESTON, IOWA—The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. in the Administration Center on the Creston campus. 

The board approved two resolutions, in separate motions, to enter Industrial New Jobs Training Agreements with the following companies: ZFS Creston, LLC of Creston in the amount of $950,000 and Weaver Meats, LLC of Afton in the amount of $110,000.

Chase Miner

Jackson, Mississippi—Chase Miner of Leon, Iowa, a sophomore at Southwestern Community College (SWCC), has been named a 2020 Oberndorf Scholar by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and has received a $1,000 scholarship.

A career fair was hosted by Montgomery County Economic Development, in partnership with the Iowa Intermediary Network (Workplace Learning Network), and Southwestern Community College Red Oak Center on Jan. 16, 2020. Southwestern Community College’s Dr. Jeremy Fox, professional music instructor, and students from the college’s vocal jazz group First Take, attended and performed at the 2020 Jazz Education Network (JEN) annual conference Jan. 7-10, in New Orleans.

Fox and First Take held a clinic during the conference entitled, “How to dig your vocal jazz charts deeper” and First Take performed as part of the JENerations Jazz Fest. In addition, Fox took part in a new vocal music reading session led by Paris Rutherford and he joined jazz singer Dee Daniels to clinic the Long Beach City College vocal jazz group, Lyrical Workers.

Fox was recently named area president for the Jazz Education Network for the state of Iowa. He will be serving a three-year term in this role.

Administrators at Southwestern Community College (SWCC) have decided to combine spring and summer commencement ceremonies for the 2019-20 academic year. All students graduating from SWCC during the 2019-20 academic year will be invited to participate in the Friday, May 8, 2020, commencement, at 7:30 p.m., in the Student Center gymnasium.
