The Bright Scholars of Iowa award is once again available to Iowa high school seniors, who are strong academically but may lack the financial means to enable them to earn a college degree, planning to attend Southwestern Community College (SWCC) this fall.

Joel Hartstack (pictured in photo above, at far right), of Clarinda, a May 2017 Southwestern Community College (SWCC) auto collision repair/refinish graduate, was named the country’s 2017 Collision Repair Technology Champion at the National SkillsUSA Championships in Louisville, KY, from June 18-23.

It was a great night at the Adams County Speedway in Corning on Saturday, June 3, 2017! It was SWCC Night at the speedway and representatives from Southwestern Community College had games, prizes, and giveaways throughout the night. The weather was perfect and after two weeks of cancelations due to the rain, race fans were ready for fun! SWCC's HHR even led the main races as the pace car.

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Drama Club is accepting submissions of 10-minute play scripts for consideration for fall 2017 performances. Submissions will be accepted until September 30.

Southwestern's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is hosting an Entrebash event for area entrepreneurs on Wednesday, June 21, from 4-7 p.m. in the SWCC Instructional Center, room 180.

Two Southwestern Community College (SWCC) students traveled to Orlando, FL, from May 10-14, 2017, to compete and place in the top 10 during the 2017 Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference.
Jenna Shepherd, arts and sciences college transfer/business administration major from Shannon City, and Shawna Abell, administrative office technology major from Greenfield, represented SWCC at the national conference. During the conference, Shepherd and Abell participated in a number of business-related contests. Shepherd placed eighth in the “Interview Skills” category. Abell placed 10th in “Fundamental Word Processing.” They qualified for the national competition by placing in the top three at state competition in Des Moines in February.
