OSCEOLA, IOWA — Representatives from Southwestern Community College (SWCC) were on-hand in early-August, at Osceola Food, LLC, a local manufacturing facility owned by Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE:HRL), to sign four Osceola Food employees for SWCC’s applied engineering technology program.

Federal grant will boost student retention and graduation at
Southwestern Community College
CRESTON, IOWA— The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Southwestern Community College (SWCC) a federal TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) grant, totaling $1,625,255 at the end of the next five years, to improve college retention and graduation rates among low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities.

Creston—The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., in the college’s Administration Center, for their regular board meeting.
During the consideration of consent agenda items, the board approved annual dues for the Higher Learning Commission.

Jasmine Hansen of Diagonal, Southwestern Community College (SWCC) auto collision repair/refinish student, finished in the Top 10 nationally during the 2025 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, held in Atlanta in June.
Hansen, a 2024 Diagonal High School graduate, completed the first year of SWCC’s auto collision repair/refinish program in June 2025. She will continue with the program this fall in order to earn her Associate of Applied Science degree from SWCC in May 2026.

Creston, Iowa — Southwestern Community College’s (SWCC) Parents as Teachers (PAT) program is expanding its reach to include Ringgold County beginning July 1, 2025. This addition marks the fifth county served by SWCC’s PAT program, which currently supports families in Adair, Adams, Taylor, and Union counties.
