Beginning the week of May 18, 2026, Southwestern Community College’s main entrance (located west of the LED sign, pictured), turning north off of Townline St./Highway 25 on the south side of campus, will be closed for reconstruction. The intersection of Southwestern Boulevard and Spartan Drive, south of the flagpole loop adjacent to the Instructional Center, will also be closed.

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) officials, construction professionals, community members, and government representatives were on hand last Thursday, April 23, 2026, as the college broke ground on a new skilled trades facility to be constructed on the east side of Technical Center I on the Creston campus. Today, construction is underway (see photo below)!

Thank you to everyone who organized AND participated in last week's Pay It Forward (PIF) Week! We accomplished a lot, including packaging 81,000 meals in one day for Meals from the Heartland, and raising $7,819.64 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
There were so many private acts of kindness taking place ALL week as well. One such story included the drive-up line at the Creston Dairy Queen. Apparently, the cars were paying it forward five cars deep in the line. Totally incredible!
Thank you all for making it a great week! Let's continue to Pay it Forward all year long!

Southwestern Community College's (SWCC's) first-ever Out of the Darkness Walk, held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in the Student Center gymnasium on the Creston campus, in cooperation with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention-Iowa (AFSP-Iowa), raised $7,819.64! Originally planned as an outdoor event, the event was quickly moved indoors due to the weather forecast, and the 126 individuals who registered continued their mission to raise funds for the AFSP.

During the 2026 Southwestern Community College (SWCC)/Union County Development Association (UCDA) Meals from the Heartland event, held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in the SWCC Student Center gymnasium, approximately 81,000 meals were packaged to feed individuals locally and around the world. Thank you to everyone who participated!

WE ARE STILL WALKING TONIGHT!
Tonight’s AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk at Southwestern Community College is being moved inside the Student Center gymnasium due to the spotty showers and storms predicted for the area. Please bring clean walking shoes, as a portion of the walking path will be on the gym floor.

Kylee Klommhaus, SWCC director of financial aid, received the 2026 Gary Adams Meritorious Service Award last week at the Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Conference.
