Creston—The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., in the college’s Administration Center, for their regular board meeting.
During the consideration of consent agenda items, the board approved annual dues for the Higher Learning Commission.

Jasmine Hansen of Diagonal, Southwestern Community College (SWCC) auto collision repair/refinish student, finished in the Top 10 nationally during the 2025 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, held in Atlanta in June.
Hansen, a 2024 Diagonal High School graduate, completed the first year of SWCC’s auto collision repair/refinish program in June 2025. She will continue with the program this fall in order to earn her Associate of Applied Science degree from SWCC in May 2026.

The Iowa Automobile Dealers Association (IADA) Foundation for Education recently awarded Southwestern Community College’s (SWCC’s) automotive programs a $4,741 grant to provide funds for the purchase of hybrid and electric vehicle testing equipment.

Creston, Iowa — Southwestern Community College’s (SWCC) Parents as Teachers (PAT) program is expanding its reach to include Ringgold County beginning July 1, 2025. This addition marks the fifth county served by SWCC’s PAT program, which currently supports families in Adair, Adams, Taylor, and Union counties.

Scholarships are still available for the 2025-26 academic year! The next Education Foundation scholarship deadline is Aug. 1, 2025. All students attending SWCC during the fall 2025 semester are encouraged to apply.
FALL 2025 Scholarship Applications
These scholarships are available due to the generosity of past, present, and future Education Foundation donors. All current and future SWCC students (attending beginning fall 2025 semester) may complete one scholarship application for numerous scholarships that can be applied to the student's account while attending Southwestern. We are extremely grateful that these scholarships are in place to assist SWCC students in furthering their college education.

Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., in the Agricultural Sciences Center, for their regular board meeting.
Wayne Pantini, SWCC vice president of economic development, spoke to the board regarding construction of the skilled trades center by Shive-Hattery Architectural Engineering Firm. According to Pantini, the facility is estimated to have a footprint of 14,500-15,500 square feet and cost approximately $5.3 million. The fees of Shive-Hattery are estimated at $438,500.

The Fuller Center for Housing of Southern Iowa, in partnership with Southwestern Community College, is beginning to plan for the 2025-26 student-constructed home and looking for its owner.

Six Southwestern Community College (SWCC) business and information technology students competed during the 2025 Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Student Leadership Conference, held during May in Orlando, and brought home various placings including two second place national finishes.
