Zapped Lazer Tag with cartoon alien

Zapped Lazer Tag will be in the Student Center gymnasium on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Come compete against other SWCC students and employees in an alien versus Army world. It's a futuristic world of chaos and corruption where humans have not dared to go before.

This event is free to SWCC students and employees. Lazer tag is sponsored by the student activities department.

The Southwestern Community College cross country program is hosting a 5K, 1 Mile Fun Run & Pancake Feed on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 8 a.m. Races begin at the main entrance of the Instructional Center on campus at 1501 West Townline St., in Creston. A free-will donation pancake feed, open to the public, will be held in conjunction with the event from 9-11 a.m., in the Spartan Cafe, located in the SWCC Student Center. Suggested donation amounts are adults, $10, and children, $5.

Registration for the 5K is $25 and runners must be registered by July 28 to guarantee a T-shirt. A one-mile fun run will be held beginning at 9 a.m. as well. The fun run is free (donations to the cross country program will be accepted).

Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the college’s Administration Center for their regular board meeting.

The board approved the hiring of Marilyn Kinsella, of Creston, as a nursing instructor for the 2018-19 academic year. Kinsella comes to SWCC from Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston where she has been a nurse on the medical/surgical floor since 1998. In addition, Kinsella was a clinical instructor for the college from 2000-2007, providing guidance and monitoring for SWCC nursing students as they completed training in the hospital setting. Kinsella will begin her duties at the college in August.

Mickey Anderson, Red Oak Chrysler, Inc., Red Oak; Todd Glendenning, Glendenning Motors, Mount Ayr; Steve Schmalzried, SWCC automotive repair technology instructor; Jeff Magneson, auto collision repair/refinish instructor; and Jeff Sorensen, SWCC automotive repair technology instructor.

The Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education recently awarded Southwestern Community College’s automotive programs a $5,700 grant to purchase a refrigerant recovery machine to be utilized by students in the programs.
