Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the college’s Administration Center for their regular board meeting.
The board recessed early in the meeting to hold a Collective Bargaining Strategy Session.

SWCC Night at the Adams County Speedway in Corning is scheduled for this Sat., June 18, 2016. Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps start at 6:30 p.m., and racing begins at 7 p.m.

Union County Emergency Management is hosting a three-day training session with actual “force-on-force” training, Tues., June 14, through Thurs., June 16, on Southwestern Community College’s Creston campus in room 180 of the Instructional Center and in student housing. During this training there will be a number of emergency vehicles on campus and the participants will be completing live simulations. Do not be alarmed.

Bring your friends this Friday night for a fun evening out and a chance to win prizes for just quarters! The SWCC Relay for Life team is hosting a Quarter Frenzy on Fri., June 3, at The Lobby, 301 W Adams Street, in Creston. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the Quarter Frenzy begins at 6:30 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee.

The SWCC Drama Club truly enjoyed performing the seven faculty/student written plays submitted last semester. Because of the success during this venture, we are pleased to announce that Stephen Jefferies will be once again be spearheading this fall project.

Southwestern Community College's adult and continuing education department held a reception on Wed., May 25, 2016, from 5-6 p.m., to honor the first three individuals to complete the college's new administrative specialist certificate training, which ran from January 25-May 25, 2016. Individuals earning certificates for the program included Elisa Cole of Creston, Terri Juhl of Fontanelle, and Ashlie Robb of Creston.

Southwestern Community College's high school carpentry and building trades Career Academy and Union County Habitat for Humanity hosted an Open House at their student-constructed home on Tues., May 24, from 6-7 p.m. The house is located at 310 S. Walnut Street in Creston.

CRESTON — Southwestern Community College auto collision repair/refinish student Shelby Woods and electrical technology student Daniel Leonard took home first place honors at the Iowa SkillsUSA 2016 competition in Ankeny on Fri., April 29, 2016. They will now represent Iowa at the national competition, which will be held during SkillsUSA’s National Leadership and Skills Conference, June 20-24, 2016, in Louisville, KY.
