Mason Adams, key account manager for Alliant Energy, visited Southwestern Community College on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, to deliver a $48,634 rebate check to the college. Rebate incentives are available from Alliant for energy-efficient projects in new and existing commercial, industrial, or agricultural facilities. The college has completed a number of energy-saving projects recently, such as adding LED lighting during the 200-bay renovation project and replacing the chiller in the college’s Instructional Center.

Phi Theta Kappa and NAMI-SWCC finished off the fall 2017 semester with a combined pot luck in the Instructional Center on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 5 p.m.
Members present included Megan Davenport, Paige Parsons, Selena Sampson, Jessica Beatty, Kimmie Zepeda, Alexandra Kay, Loran Sneller, Kara Ramold, Jacob Bolinger, Jordan Gehlhaar, Isacc Wignall, and Jade Lecy.

The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of trustees held their regular board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. in the college’s Administration Center.
The board heard a report by Tia Samo, SWCC chief financial officer, regarding the college’s Early Retirement Policy. Samo said there are 17 employees eligible for early retirement under the policy. The policy has an April 1, 2018, application deadline for employees. Following Samo’s presentation, the board approved the proposed plan. The expiration date for this plan is June 30, 2018.

CRESTON — The TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program at Southwestern Community College (SWCC) is hosting an ACT Boot Camp on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., in the college’s Instructional Center, room 180, to assist high school students in preparation for the ACT Test.

The SWCC Drama Club will be performing Agatha Christie's famous play, And then there were None, during the spring 2018 semester. Auditions for the play will take place Tuesday, Dec. 12, and Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 3-5 p.m. both days, in the Instructional Center, room 145.

On Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation will give away 500 pork loins to anyone in need in Creston. Starting at 7 a.m., Iowa Select Farms employees will gather in Southwestern Community College's main parking lot to hand out free, five-pound pork loins to anyone in need. The event is expected to end at 9 a.m. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please enter at Southwestern Community College's main entrance off of Highway 25/Townline Street when coming to pickup pork loin. Turn right at the flagpole to proceed to the south end of the main parking lot where Iowa Select will be stationed. Southwestern students, please use one of the east entrances to campus, off of Lincoln Street, when coming to classes on Monday to avoid congestion.
