The Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship is a state-funded program for Iowans who:

  • Are new high school graduates starting college at a full-time status
  • Are adult learners starting college at a part-time status
  • Have applied for other aid available
  • Plan to earn a credential for a high-demand job

This program is designed to cover remaining gaps between federal and state grants or scholarships and tuition and qualified fees. Credentials include postsecondary certificates, diplomas and associate degrees.

Eligible Students

There are two groups that qualify for Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship:

Group 1: NEW HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES
 Must enroll in a qualified program of study at a full-time status for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation
 Apply for all other available state and federal grants and scholarships
 Meet continuing requirements

Group 2: ADULT LEARNERS
 Age 20 or older (before July 1 of current year)
 Must enroll in a qualified program of study at a full-time or part-time status
 Apply for all other available state and federal grants and scholarships
 Meet continuing requirements

Other eligibility requirements include filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), meet with a Southwestern academic advisor or admissions representative to register for courses and attend an orientation.
