Creston, Iowa — October 22, 2026 — The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Iowa Chapter is thrilled to announce the return of the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Campus Walk on April 22, 2027! After a successful inaugural year, the walk returns for a second year, bringing the campus and community together to raise awareness, promote mental health, and support suicide prevention.

Creston— The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors met on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., in the college’s Administration Center, for the regular monthly board meeting.
The board approved 2026-27 appointments to the SWCC Education Foundation board of directors, as follows: Bryant Blay of Red Oak, Kevin Britten of Red Oak, Jeremy Evers of Osceola, David Greene of Mount Ayr, Julie Lanning of Creston, Shawna Parrish of Diagonal, Lindsay Stoaks of Corning, and Alec Turner of Corning. Brandi Shay, SWCC chief financial officer, said the board remains the same as was approved by the board of directors during the spring 2026 semester.

Southwestern Community College’s annual Donor/Scholar Dinner was held on Thursday, Sept, 17, 2026, bringing together approximately 170 donors, scholarship recipients, and members of the college community for an evening of connection and celebration. The event recognized the generosity of donors who invest in the success of SWCC students and provided an opportunity for scholarship recipients to share how that support is making a difference in their educational journeys.

Southwestern's admissions department is excited to host “Find Your Future” on Thursday, Oct. 1. For this recruitment event, the college will welcome approximately 500 high school students from more than 20 high schools. This event will start at 9 a.m. and end by 12:30 p.m.
